Gerald Stewart, Longtime Ilion Fixture, Passes

Gerald S. Stewart, 70, of State Route 8 and formerly of West Street, Newport, passed away on October 25, 2025, at Albany Medical Center.

Mr. Stewart was born on October 17, 1955, in Herkimer, a son of the late Francis and Alice (Geer) Stewart. He graduated from West Canada Valley Central School in 1973. On December 4, 1976, Gerald was united in marriage with the former Linda B. Miner. The couple moved to West Winfield in 1985. Gerald was an EHS Generalist at Pratt & Whitney Homogenous Metals Incorporated for 35 years and retired in March 2011. He was last employed as a Sr. Analyst at Fountainhead Group, Utica.

Gerald enjoyed golf, hunting, and skeet shooting, where he once achieved a โ€œ100 straight.โ€ He loved fishing, especially in Florida and Montana while visiting his children on vacation. Mr. Stewart was a member of the Leonardsville Rod and Gun Club.

Survivors besides his wife of 48 years, Linda, include three children, Jennifer Stewart (Tara Shisler) of Missoula, MT, Jarrod (Tracy) Stewart of Crestview, FL and Rene (Ryan) Mahanna of Sherrill; a brother, Francis (Theresa) Stewart, Jr.; four grandchildren, Joshua and Kyra Stewart, and Jemma and Skylar Mahanna; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, Gerald was predeceased by a son, Joshua S. Stewart.

Calling hours at the Autenrith Funeral Home, 7479 Main Street, Newport are Thursday, October 30 from 4:00 โ€“ 7:00 pm. A graveside service will take place at Middleville Rural Cemetery on Friday, October 31 at 10:00am.

Memorial contributions may be made to Feed Our Vets, P.O. Box 1, New York Mills, NY 13417. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
